sligtly weird looking planes.
did the pilots of both airlines dead or…….??
Pause it at about 1:23 or 1:24 and if you’re lucky, you’ll see the terrified look of Pan Am 1736′s First Officer Robert Bragg when he turns toward Captain Victor Grubbs and wordlessly says “This is it!” Note also how the shadow of the KLM, with its nose up and tail scraping the pavement surrounds his face. And one other thing- KLM Captain van Zanten’s name was: Jacob Louis Veldhuyzen van Zanten- 2 middle names, one of them the highly American Louis. His first name- Jacob, a common Jewish name!:)
Thumbs up if Boeing 747′s are the best planes in the world!!
What was the KLM Capt. thinking? Esp. in those conditions…..terrible mis-judgement and unprofessionalism.
why at 1:08 the tail is sparkling it should not be doing that the kml aircraft nose is too high
@SpanishDrifftingClan
Why would the Germans leave out all the locations of where to build an airport and the just mark two locations with x? No wonder the spanish thought the Germans meant those places in that case. Also didn’t the spanish have a lot better knowledge of the Canary islands than the Germans? Why even consult the Germans at all?
Could it be that the airport was originally meant for military planes, and thus this location was chosen?
holy FUCK!
en ik ga naar tenerife op 22 juni
lol he said “Poop! Poop!”
ahh
Im spanish and i can tell you that if you are a pilot (im not) you will already know that Northern Tenerife Airports is quite “peculiar” airport to land in. We asked the germans to help us choose a place to build the airport in the island. The german gave us out a map of the islands with 2 “X” drawed on. The “x” meant NOT HERE. The Spanish thought “here or here”
1:15 – Look at his tail – it looks like he is not pulling up XD
@bedanec van zantan not veldhuzen
mistke of the tower…
I just saw a Seconds from Disaster episode on this. It must have been made earlier, because there were interviews with Pan Am Captain Victor Grubbs. Grubbs has since passed away. Search for “tenerife disaster,” it’s the first result.
@bedanec Yep, van Zanten could not be beaten!
(I’m being sarcastic)
@TheZodiacPrincess lol
My grandfather worked for KLM b/w 1955 and 1982, and he actually knew the KLM pilot personally. He told me that this video doesnt even do him justice. “Van Zanten was a bigger asshole than this documentary gives him credit for.”
Ouch…
small green islands canary islind
@Airplanespot Thank you Airplanespot. Maybe KLM captain was a bully, maybe this maybe that. BUT, this would never have happened if, in the approximate words of one aviation commentator, “we all agreed it was stupid to fly in such conditions to begin with.”
That’s why I don’t blame it all on van Zanten .
@ieden5432
Sorry, but was it really a good idea to watch this before flying then? It’s like watching Titanic before you go sailing;)
Personally I really HATE flying (& yes why do I watch it, don’t know? I guess I just had to see it.). But I would NEVER watch any documentaries about airplains falling down at the moment I new I had to go flying somewhere, never!
Szerintem a KLM hibázott…… nem tudták kivárni míg elszáll a köd…
I hate that KLM Airlines pilot. And the weather. If it is that bad than I think they need to cancel all flights to and from.
i know that all the pilots were not dead 1 was alive in pan am+
the klm flied away.I Am sorry this happened
